Our History

It was by the 1960s, the Indian banking industry had become an important tool to facilitate the development of the Indian economy and at the same time, a debate of nationalisation of the banking industry.

It was then the Government of India issued the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Ordinance, 1969 and nationalised the 14 largest commercial banks with effect from the midnight of 19 July 1969. The Parliament passed the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertaking) Bill, and it received presidential approval on 9 August 1969.The second round of nationalisations of six more commercial banks followed in 1980.

When many commercial banks were nationalized during the year 1960 to 1980, it was very difficult for people with low income, uneducated & others to open an account and avail credit facility from Banks, it was then late.Sri.K.Venkatappa (Akkuru Master) along with his friend like.Sri .Late.K.Devaiah (Member of the urban council and MLA), Sri.Late.K.G.Giriyappa, Sri.Late Kuntaiah, Sri.Late Channappa, Sri.Late S.Krishnaiah Raju and other friends intended to start a Co-Operative Society in Ramamohanapura and got the society registered under the Co-Operative Societies Act under the name Sri Lakshminarayana Co-operative Society on 29.06.1972 under guidance of the then Assistant Registrar of Co-Operative Societies Mr.Byata and Mr.N.Nehru. Later in the year 1975 the society got banking license from Reserve Bank of India on 25/10/1975 and Sri Lakshminarayana Co-Operative Society was renamed as Sri Lakshminarayana Co-Operative Bank Limited.

It was with the hard efforts of the founder members the Bank has completed four decades of its operations and about to complete the fifth decade in 2023.

    After getting the approval from RBI, Bank has started its 1st branch operations on 30/06/1997

    Bank has constructed new building for its operations and inagorated the new building on 15/5/1989

  • Building Foundation Layed

    Bank has owned its own land for its operations and Foudation stone layed for constuction of building on 20/10/1988

    Later in the year 1975 the society got banking license from Reserve Bank of India on 25/10/1975 and Sri Lakshminarayana Co-Operative Society was renamed as Sri Lakshminarayana Co-Operative Bank Limited.
